The first part in a series of 16 mm loops made from silent film intertitles. By blowing up these typographic images to 16 mm (from Super 8 reduction prints of films originally shot on 35 mm), I simply added an additional layer of reproduction to their circuitous lifelines. While each frame was nearly identical upon the intertitles’ initial production, their repeated duplications have introduced irregularities that testify to the past lives of each successive print source. Cut off from their narrative context, the intertitles stand in for an absent moment all while reaching out to a newfound autonomy. They can be shown individually or be reconfigured in any number of combinations within the exhibition space.
